Statcounter Global Stats is the tracker most often quoted for search engine share. Its worldwide, all-device report for August 2026 gives Google 91.02%. Every figure below comes from Statcounter’s own export of that report, not from a secondary write-up.
Which search engine leads worldwide in August 2026?
Google, at 91.02%. Bing follows at 4.55%, then Yahoo! at 1.24%, Yandex at 1.01%, DuckDuckGo at 0.7% and Baidu at 0.62%. Naver is next at 0.24% and CocCoc at 0.22%. The remainder are below that line.
How does August compare with the past twelve months?
Statcounter’s twelve-month view, August 2025 to August 2026, has Google at 90.37% and Bing at 4.49%. Google is therefore 0.65 points higher in the latest month than across the range. Yandex shows the largest drop, from 1.5% to 1.01%, and Yahoo! slips from 1.38% to 1.24%. DuckDuckGo is 0.77% over the range and 0.7% in August, and Baidu is 0.62% in both.
How does August 2026 compare with the same month in earlier years?
The same export for single months gives a year-on-year view. In August 2025 Statcounter had Google at 89.89%, Bing at 3.92%, Yandex at 2.19%, Yahoo! at 1.48%, DuckDuckGo at 0.9% and Baidu at 0.76%. In August 2024 Google stood at 90.5% and Bing at 3.91%. Against August 2025, Google is up 1.13 points and Bing up 0.63 points, while Yandex has roughly halved, from 2.19% to 1.01%. Over two years Google’s share has moved by about half a point.
Does the share differ on mobile and desktop?
Sharply, and it is the most useful split in the report. On mobile in August 2026, Statcounter has Google at 95.55%, with Yandex at 0.92%, Baidu at 0.84%, DuckDuckGo at 0.7% and Bing at only 0.6%. On desktop, Google falls to 85.94% and Bing rises to 8.91%, followed by Yahoo! at 2.17%, Yandex at 1.12%, DuckDuckGo at 0.71% and Baidu at 0.34%. Bing’s worldwide 4.55% is therefore mostly a desktop number. Check your own device split before judging Bing by the global figure. What does this share actually measure?
Statcounter counts page views on sites that run its tracking code and attributes each to the search engine that referred it. That is a sample of referral traffic, not a count of searches, and it will not match a single site’s own analytics. Its FAQ describes the base as more than 3 billion page views a month across over 1 million sites, but it gives no count for this report, and data can be revised for 45 days after publication. Treat differences under one point as directional. The report covers search engines only, so it says nothing about AI chatbots, which are handled in our tracker comparison.
