Key takeaways
- Google's help page says the Merchant Center UCP integration hub is rolling out gradually in the US, with Australia and Canada to follow next year.
- Per the help page, UCP is an open standard for agentic commerce, and integrating it lets a merchant add a checkout button on eligible product listings in AI Mode and on Gemini.
- Merchants must complete the technical implementation in the UCP developer guide and fill out an interest form before they can be selected for onboarding.
- The hub lets merchants pick UCP capabilities, which the help page lists as cart transfer to the merchant site, native checkout on Google and identity linking.
- Merchants who sell through a third-party platform are told to ask that provider about its UCP plans rather than onboard on their own.
Google is adding a Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) integration hub to Merchant Center. The change is documented on the help page How to onboard to the UCP integration hub in Merchant Center, which we read in full. PPC News Feed reported it on 6 October 2026, crediting Hana Kobzova, and Search Engine Roundtable followed on 7 October.
What is the UCP integration hub?
Per the help page, UCP “is a new open standard for agentic commerce that enables agents and systems to work together across the commerce ecosystem.” By integrating with it, a merchant can implement a checkout button on eligible product listings in AI Mode in Google Search and on Gemini.
Search Engine Roundtable says the hub itself reads “Start selling across AI surfaces by implementing Universal Commerce Protocol.” We did not see the hub screen, so that line is as reported there. The help page describes the hub as the place to onboard to the program from a Merchant Center account.
Who can use it, and where?
The help page says the Merchant Center integration is gradually rolling out in the US, with Australia and Canada to follow next year. Because the rollout is gradual, some accounts may not show the hub yet.
Access is not automatic. The page lists two steps before onboarding:
- Build first: complete the technical implementation described in the UCP developer guide. The page calls this necessary before you begin.
- Apply: fill out the interest form. Google says it will notify merchants once they are selected, and only then do they get the onboarding experience in Merchant Center.
What does the hub give merchants?
Selected merchants get a sandbox environment to validate their integration, including the UCP profile, cart transfer to a merchant site and the native checkout APIs. Merchant Center will also alert them if they need to update feed attributes, returns or account configuration.
The hub lets merchants choose UCP capabilities. The page names cart transfer to the merchant site, native checkout on Google and identity linking. PPC News Feed adds that the help page was renamed, that the rollout timing shifted and that an earlier FAQ about UCP-powered checkout for select US merchants was removed. That is the outlet’s comparison with the earlier page, which we did not check.
What about stores on a platform?
The help page says merchants who work with a third-party service provider or platform should connect with them directly about their UCP plans. For earlier platform-led rollouts, see the native checkout switch-on and the Shopify channels story.
What should merchants do now?
The help page says the best preparation is keeping Merchant Center data robust and up to date, from product feeds to brand assets. Beyond that, the sources do not say how eligible listings are chosen or how a checkout button ranks.
