Key takeaways
- Topics Portfolio is a beta tab in the AI Performance report that clusters the grounding queries where your site appears into broader themes.
- Each topic carries three approximate measures, Topic Size, Sites Cited and Queries, which describe demand and how crowded the topic is.
- Top Opportunity Queries lists queries where other sites appear and yours does not, with citation volumes shown as ranges.
- Bing says topic classification is AI-generated, smaller sites may see a short list or no feature at all, and the numbers are directional signals.
- The report has no click data, so it measures presence in AI answers and not visits.
Microsoft Bing announced on 13 October 2026 a beta feature in Bing Webmaster Tools called Topics Portfolio. It sits inside the AI Performance report, which we covered in Bing reports how often AI answers cite your pages.
What does Topics Portfolio show?
Bing says it groups the grounding queries where your site appears into broader thematic clusters, with football, taxes and AI chatbots as its examples. Where the report listed one query at a time, this view shows how your presence is distributed across themes, how much demand each theme represents, how competitive it is and where the site has room to grow.
Bing adds that the topics and opportunity queries come from your own presence and activity in AI search, not from a generic list.
What do the columns mean?
The landing page lists the topics where your site has a meaningful presence, with three measures beside each one:
- Topic Size: the approximate total citations across all sites for the topic in the selected period, which Bing calls a measure of how much AI search demand the topic represents.
- Sites Cited: the approximate number of sites appearing for queries in the topic, which indicates how crowded it is.
- Queries: the approximate number of distinct grounding queries in the topic.
What are opportunity queries?
Below the topic table sits Top Opportunity Queries: the strongest queries across your whole portfolio where other sites appear and yours does not. Citation volumes there are shown as ranges, not exact numbers.
Opening a topic gives a detail page with three cards, Topic Size, your own citations in the topic and its query count. Beneath them, Your Grounding Queries lists queries where you already appear, and Opportunity Queries lists those where you do not.
Who sees it, and how reliable is it?
Bing says the feature appears only if there is sufficient data for your site, as a Topics Portfolio tab next to Citations and Pages. It labels the feature beta and lists its limits:
- Topic classification is AI-generated and can occasionally be imperfect.
- Topics with insufficient site presence or ecosystem activity are not shown, so smaller sites may see a shorter list or may not see the feature.
- Branded queries can appear as opportunity queries.
- Topic Size, Sites Cited and Queries are approximate, and opportunity volumes are ranges.
Bing tells readers to treat the numbers as “directional signals for planning, not as a precise ledger.” Every topic row and opportunity query has thumbs up and thumbs down controls for feedback.
What is missing?
Barry Schwartz of Search Engine Roundtable notes there is no click data yet. The report measures presence in AI answers, so it cannot say whether a citation sent anyone to your site. Bing frames the view for publishers doing content strategy, editorial planning and competitive positioning. The figures cover AI search activity on Bing’s surfaces only, grouped by Microsoft’s own classification.

Frequently asked questions
What is Topics Portfolio in Bing Webmaster Tools?
A beta feature inside the AI Performance report that groups the grounding queries where your site appears into broader thematic clusters, so you see the shape of your presence across themes instead of one query at a time.
Who can see it?
Only sites with sufficient data. Bing says topics with insufficient site presence or ecosystem activity are not shown, so smaller sites may see a shorter list or may not see the feature at all.
Does it show clicks or traffic?
No. Search Engine Roundtable notes there is no click data yet. The figures count citations, queries and sites, not visits.
