# Google job listings describe Discover as an AI concierge

## The short answer

Google job listings describe turning Discover into a "proactive, hyper-personalized concierge experience" and say the Discover Feed Recommendation team recommends AI-generated content. This is listing language, not an announced product change. The listings give no timeline or share of the feed, and Search Console already reports Discover generative AI impressions.

## Key takeaways

- Google's Principal UX listing says the role will transform Discover into a proactive, hyper-personalized concierge experience that helps users make progress on their goals.
- A Staff ML Engineer listing says the Discover Feed Recommendation team leads by recommending AI-generated content (AIGC) to fulfill user interests.
- Both are job listings, not an announcement, and Search Engine Journal notes that none of them gives a timeline or says how much of the feed AI content would fill.
- Search Engine Journal reports that Search Console already counts impressions of your links in Discover's generative AI features, grouped by page, country and date.
- The Principal UX listing also asks for balancing AI capabilities while centering human voices and sources, and for scaling AI-enabled feed formats.

Two Google job listings describe where the Discover team wants the feed to go. The first is the
Principal UX listing for Search Discover, the second a Staff ML Engineer listing for Discover Feed
Recommendation. We read both on Google Careers. Search Engine Journal reported the listings on 11
October 2026 and said they were first spotted by Damien Andell on X; Search Engine Roundtable
followed on 13 October. Everything below is listing language, not a Google announcement.

## What the listings say

The Principal UX listing says the role will "lead the design vision and execution to transform
Discover into a proactive, hyper-personalized concierge experience that helps users make progress
on their goals." It adds two more duties: balance AI capabilities while centering human voices and
sources, and help existing users go deeper, "moving seamlessly from inspiration to action".

The Staff ML Engineer listing says the Discover Feed Recommendation team "leads by recommending
AI-generated content (AIGC) to fulfill user interests". Its holder would build agentic loops and
evaluation frameworks for factuality, freshness, coherence and tone on proactive surfaces like
Discover and Notifications.

## Is it a product change?

No. A listing describes the work a hire would do, and Google can change or close one at any time.
Search Engine Journal's report makes the same point: Google Careers does not show when the roles
went up, and none of the Discover listings gives a timeline or says how much of the feed AI content
would fill. We found no Google statement that confirms a redesign or a launch date.

Roger Montti's [Search Engine Journal analysis](https://www.searchenginejournal.com/google-discover-to-undergo-dramatic-changes/592626/)
reads the Principal UX listing as a sign of a substantial transformation and suggests publisher
reach could change. That is his interpretation. The listing itself states a design mandate, not a
product plan.

## What it means for publishers

Little, and only in passing. The Principal UX listing asks for scaling "AI enabled formats" and
"elevating human voices and perspectives in the feed". Search Engine Journal adds that the listing
names experience building value exchanges with creators and publishers as a preferred
qualification, and that the hire would work with YouTube, Shopping, Chrome and Android teams. The
ML listing gives no rules for how AI-generated content relates to publisher content.

## Discover AI impressions

Yes, according to Search Engine Journal, which says Search Console already reports when your site's
links appear in Discover's generative AI features. Its description: the report counts impressions
by page, country and date, and does not break out individual AI features. It also says sites with
too few impressions may not see it. We did not open the report ourselves, so treat those details
as SEJ's account of Google's help page.

## What to check this week

Nothing in the listings changes a rule today, so the useful step is a baseline. Check whether
Search Console shows Discover generative AI impressions for your pages, and compare them with your
normal Discover performance. Re-read our
