# Google Business Profile adds four dietary attributes

## The short answer

Google is rolling out gluten-free, dairy-free, halal and kosher dietary attributes for restaurants in Google Business Profiles, next to the vegetarian and vegan attributes that already existed. Lisa Landsman of Google announced it on LinkedIn. Owners set them per menu item under Edit menu, and tagged dishes can surface for diet searches on Google Maps and Search.

## Key takeaways

- Google is rolling out gluten-free, dairy-free, halal and kosher attributes for restaurants in Business Profiles.
- The new attributes sit alongside the vegetarian and vegan attributes that were already available.
- Owners update them in the profile by choosing Edit menu, selecting an item and checking the applicable dietary badges.
- Lisa Landsman of Google says tagged dishes can stand out when people search Google Maps or Search for a specific diet.
- Barry Schwartz notes that nothing he saw suggests the kosher or halal claims are independently verified, which is his own observation.

Google is rolling out new dietary attributes for local restaurants in Google Business Profiles.
Barry Schwartz reported it at Search Engine Roundtable on 13 October 2026.

## What is new?

Google added gluten-free, dairy-free, halal and kosher attributes. Vegetarian and vegan
attributes were already there. Lisa Landsman of Google announced the change on LinkedIn, calling
it great news for local restaurants. We could not fetch her post, so its wording is as reported by
Search Engine Roundtable.

## Where does it show up?

Landsman says that when diners search Google Maps or Search for a specific diet, such as
"gluten-free dinner near me", tagged dishes help a restaurant's items stand out on its profile.
Google's stated aim is to remove some of the planning friction for diners with dietary needs.

## How do owners set it?

Schwartz gives the steps: open your Google Business Profile, select Edit menu, choose an item and
check the applicable dietary badges. The attributes are set per menu item, so a restaurant with a
menu in its [local SEO](/topics/local-seo) setup has to tag dishes one by one.

## What is not known?

The sources give no rollout schedule, no list of countries or languages, and no word on how Google
checks the tags. Schwartz writes that he suspects there is very little validation behind the
kosher option and that you have to trust the restaurant. That is his opinion, not a Google
statement.
